Ten PINK Little Toes!

IT'S A GIRL!
We are feeling so humbled and grateful and excited!
We praise You, Jesus, for this precious daughter and her perfect health.
She truly IS marvelously and wonderfully made!

We can't wait to meet you face to face!
(click on photo for larger view)

And yet, we're so amazed that we can catch a glimpse of your sweet little features even now. (And, if we're not mistaken, you already have that "Trenkle Frown" from Dad & Papa T! But don't worry, Kennady was born with one, too, but now she's ALL smiles.)

Unless the LORD builds the house,
they labor in vain who build it;
Unless the LORD guards the city,
the watchman stays awake in vain.
It is vain for you to rise up early,
to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows;
For so He gives His beloved sleep.

Behold, children are a
heritage from the LORD,
the fruit of the womb is a reward.
Like arrows in the hand of a warrior,
so are the children of one’s youth.
Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them;
they shall not be ashamed,
But shall speak with their enemies in the gate.
Psalm 127

Lots of people think it's ~crazy~ to have more than 2 or 3 babes. But the Lord says otherwise: children are a reward and those with a "quiver full of them" shall not be ashamed, but rather HAPPY! And there's no denyin'... the Lord's been building some serious house & home around here, I'll tell ya! And for the time being, I also happen to be a walking construction zone. Yay!

In Relationship to Christ

I’m reading, well a dozen books right now, but the one I finished tonight is Every Young Woman’s Battle by Shannon Ethridge & Stephen Arterburn. (I read Every Young Man’s Battle a couple days ago… if you are raising teenage boys OR girls that particular book is an incredibly eye-opening & edifying read.)

Anyway, I want to share an excerpt from Every Young Woman's Battle that the author quoted from lecturer Jack Hill who explains that there are six progressive levels of relationship with God, as explained by these Biblical metaphors found in Scripture:
Potter/Clay
Shepherd/Sheep
Master/Servant
Friend/Friend
Father/Daughter
Groom/Bride

The author says, “I believe God gave us these metaphors to increase our understanding of His complex personality and to help us better comprehend the depth of His perfect love for us. These metaphors illustrate the maturing of our love relationship with God. Just as children develop physically until they reach adulthood, believers in Christ develop spiritually in stages as we walk down the road to spiritual maturity.”

POTTER/CLAY
When we first come to Christ, our spiritual life has little shape or form. We submit ourselves to Jesus Christ as our Savior and ask God to begin shaping us into what He wants us to be.

“We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.” Isaiah 64:8, Jeremiah 18:4-6

As a piece of clay, we can allow the Potter to mold us, but we cannot express our love back to Him. When we comply and feel God using us, we feel good about ourselves. When we mess up or don’t have a clear sense of purpose, we feel distant from God. We often withdraw because we believe He is angry with us due to our poor performance.

Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” This affirms that it is important for us to submit to God and allow Him to shape our lives into something that brings Him honor. However, He doesn’t want our relationship to stop there. He wants it to become deeper and more intimate.

SHEPHERD/SHEEP
It may not be flattering to be compared to a sheep, but this metaphor illustrates how well God takes care of His people, just as a shepherd carefully tends his flock. God spoke through the prophet Ezekiel:

“For this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I myself will search for my sheep and look after them. As a shepherd looks after his scattered flock when he is with them, so will I look after my sheep. I will rescue them from all the places where they were scattered… They will lie down in good grazing land, and there they will feed in a rich pasture on the mountains of Israel. I myself will tend my sheep and have them lie down, declares the Sovereign Lord. (34:11-12, 14-15; also see parable of the Good Shepherd in John 10:1-18)

Although sheep know the shepherd’s voice and will follow him, they have no idea what the heart of the shepherd feels for them. Sheep can’t share the shepherd’s dreams and hopes. They are merely concerned with their daily need for food and water. While it is important for us to follow and trust God as our Caretaker and Provider as a sheep follows a shepherd, God longs for us to have a more personal relationship with Him.

MASTER/SERVANT
While sheep stay outside, servants at least live in the same household as the master and talk with him, as long as it is business. The servant enjoys a more intimate relationship. The parable of the talents (Matthew 25:14-30) and the parable of the ten minas (Luke 19:11-27) refer to this level of relationship. However, servants know little of what is happening with the master, other than what they are directly involved with. A servant’s value is derived from how well she can complete the master’s will. While it is important for us to serve God wholeheartedly and do His will, God still longs to have an even greater level of intimacy than this.

FRIEND/FRIEND
A servant’s relationship with her master rests on business and performance, while love and mutual concern form the basis of a friend’s relationship with a friend. Jesus spoke about this deeper level of intimacy that He shared with His disciples when He said, “I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s [personal] business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you” (John 15:15). Jesus is saying, “I value you not just because of how you serve me, but because you share my heart.” A friend’s value lies not so much in what she does, but in who she is as a personal confidant.

God wants to be our friend, and He wants us to be His friends. We can experience this friendship level of intimacy. As James 2:23 tells us, “And the scripture was fulfilled that says, ‘Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,’ and he was called God’s friend.” Also, Proverbs 22:11 says, “[She] who loves a pure heart and whose speech is gracious will have the king for [her] friend.”

Yet even as close as two friends can be, blood runs thicker than water.

FATHER/DAUGHTER
As we realize and accept the truth that we are not just God’s lump of clay, sheep, servant, or even friend, but also God’s very own child, we can experience tremendous healing from childhood wounds and disappointments. We can allow God to be the Father or Mother (He possesses the good qualities of both genders) that we so needed or wanted. We can be free from the burden of trying to perform or produce for Him when we understand that He loves us not for what we do but because we are His daughters. As wonderful and healing as a father/daughter relationship is, the groom/bride relationship promises the most intimate connection of all.

GROOM/BRIDE
Once a woman becomes a bride, the focus of her life and priorities change, and all other people and priorities pale in comparison to her primary love relationship. Again, this metaphor illustrates a much deeper truth—God desires for us to love Him passionately, to find it delightful to simply be in His presence, and to know Him personally both publicly and privately. He longs for our focus and priorities to become aligned with His.

God has always longed for this kind of relationship with His chosen people. He said through the prophet Hosea, “I will betroth you to me forever; I will betroth you in righteousness and justice, in love and compassion. I will betroth you in faithfulness, and you will acknowledge the Lord” (2:19-20).

God extends to us an eternal commitment of love, a love so deep, so wide, and so great that we cannot possibly fully understand it. This gift should inspire us to reciprocate with as equal a gift of love as is humanly possible. What started out as an engagement relationship between God and His own in the Garden of Eden will come to fullness at the wedding supper of the Lamb when Jesus Christ returns to claim His bride, the church.

So how can you cultivate a bridal love for Jesus and enjoy this intimate relationship that He longs to have with you? By falling in love with Him and attempting to pursue Him as passionately as He has been pursuing you all along.

From Chapter 25: FALLING IN LOVE WITH JESUS
pp. 210-214

When you read the progressive of levels of intimacy, can you relate with any one over the other? I just love how God is so specific in His Word. And this was something I needed to read tonight... it explains so much about living a life in Christ and how believers can all be at different levels of intimacy, but in relationship to the same One. What are your thoughts?

New Favorite Books

I bought these two children's books last year at a conference featuring Elizabeth George, author of A Woman After God's Own Heart. I was really excited about the content because there is such applicable wisdom in the Proverbs for parenting. I took the books home and the kids weren't really all that excited. But I pulled them out again a few weeks ago for my oldest two babes, and at ages 3 & 4, these are now the pages they want to behold at bedtime. They are fascinated by the illustrations and by the rhythm and rhyme that Elizabeth uses to spell out these truths.

God's Wisdom for Little Boys: Character Building Fun from Proverbs highlights characterics that make men wise and smart. Bryson's favorite pages are the ones illustrating that God's Little Boy is ...

TRUTHFUL
He recites the scripture before we even turn the page... "We don't use our mouth to tell lies, Mom, huh."

DILIGENT

OBEDIENT

RESPONSIBLE

BRAVE
"Yeah, when I lay down my sleep will be peaceful. And the Lord will keep me SAFE!"

God's Wisdom for Little Girls: Virtues and Fun from Proverbs highlights the virtues we find of the exemplary woman in Proverbs 31. Kennady loves the first page, PRICELESS, since it's an illustration of a little girl playing dress-up with all sorts of treasures from mom's room and jewelry boxes (including rubies). Her favorite pages include the ones that reveal that God's Little Girl is...

EAGER

CHEERFUL

GRACIOUS

ARTISTIC

We use the Headings of each page to practice our ABC's with sight recognition. Bryson & Kennady are hiding God's Word in their hearts and seeing what these biblical words that we use around here actually mean by observing the illustrations of the children on the pages. Making them favorites of mine, too. Especially for spending time with my son, who does like to look at books and sit through stories, but has little interest in practicing recognizing the alphabet and writing his letters (unless it's bedtime and he's run out of other procrastinatory options like another request to use the bathroom or another drink for his oh-so-scratchy throat or his blankets aren't straight... he'll ask, "Can I practice my letters?"... he's a smart boy, I'll tell ya).

And actually, everytime I read through these, there's always something that strikes a chord in my heart for that day... the conviction of the Holy Spirit, you know? And it gives me a good opportunity to confess to my sweet boy or girl how Mommy's day would have been better if I had been more EAGER or CARE-FUL or more DILIGENT, depending on what story I can re-tell from how our day went. Might be good for all of us to read these piled up in our bed first thing in the morning!

The Name Game

Sheila was asking me about the Ellis in the names. Ellis is my maternal Grandmother's last name. And so because I love talking about my babes, and because I know you'll humor me, I'll just indulge myself a little here and share the history of naming our dozen (or so) children.

Karsyn is a name I have loved since we were pregnant with Kennady. And in my family, there's a **rule** that all the little girls must have "K" names. It started with me, then my cousin Katie, then my sister Kristy and along came Kristen and Krystal and then Kassie. I have Kennady and my sister has Macy Kaye (my sister, the rule breaker always loved the name Macy and well, she did give her a K-name for a middle name) and then my cousin Katie has Kelsie.

We like the naming-baby process.

BRYSON ROBERT CHASTAIN TRENKLE
Bry's-son Robert (my Dad and brother and 7 others in my family!) Chastain (my Dad's family's last name).

KENNADY KATHRYN TRENKLE
Kennady ("helmeted chief!" and yeah, she has beeen a bossy li'l thing) Kathryn (Bryan's mom's middle name)

KEVAN CLAYTON JAMES TRENKLE
Kevan (both Bryan's dad and my dad's brother were Kevan/Kevin) Clayton (Bryan's uncle's middle name) JAMES (biblical)

KARSYN ELLISE
Karsyn (a derivative of Karyn means PURE); Ellise (means CONSECRATED TO GOD)

BRETT WILLIAM ELLIS TRENKLE
Brett (Favre, of course) William (Bryan's maternal Grampa was Willie) Ellis (my mom's family's last name)

LAUREN ASHLEE TRENKLE
Bryan and Marcie just thought Lauren Ashlee was pretty.

And that's that!

BOY or GIRL? Ultrasound is 2/28... Take a GUESS!

Let me know what you think we are having!

A BABY GIRL
Karsyn Ellise

Bryson & Bowling (finally!)

Since I first mentioned BOWLING to my son,
he has been counting down the days.
And we finally got to go and we even wore BOWLING SHOES!
Bryson is a sports NUT already and we must have read
the 2 page spread in his "SPORTS" library book at least a dozen times.
Here's my champ on his big day...

Oh, and the SCORE?

Bryson bowled a 60.

Mom bowled a 75.

Kennady's Date with Daddy

Every year there's a Father-Daughter dance here in town and it's just as fun as prom, I think, for at least the moms and daughters. Kennady could not WAIT until the big night. I pulled out this gorgeous little red dress from her closet and her eyes got as big as saucers, amazed at the look and feel of a real princess dress.

I got butterflies, too! This was the dress my cousin Kassie wore in our wedding 7 years ago! Kennady asked to wear it daily, but nope... it was only for the big date night with Daddy.

He took her to the dance for a couple hours where she fell in love with Hannah Montana songs and she and Daddy (who never dances with the Mom) did all sorts of group dances. I wish moms were allowed to watch from behind one of those one-sided window thingies. I would have loved to capture the whole thing on camera.

They went out to IHOP afterward where she, Princess of the Night, finally was able let down her hair... taking off her crown and chowing down on some silver-dollar pancakes. She recalls every detail of that night, including that the side of fruit cost Daddy "a thousand dollars!" (well, $5.00, but it's all relative).

She had so much fun, that she and Daddy might have to "date" more often. Sometimes as Kennady's spending some quiet time in her room or trying to fall asleep for nap, I'll hear her singing a version of the song "I Exalt Thee"...

"I exaaaaaaalt me! I exaaaaaalt me!
At the Faaaaaaaaaaaather Daaaaaaaaaughter Daaaaaaance.
I eeeeeeeeeeeeeeexalt meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, Oh Lord."

She actually missed the dance in 2007 because she was sick. But here's Kennabear and Daddy on Date Night TWO whole years ago in 2006...

Hard to believe my baby girl's not a baby anymore!

Cooking with Kellie (lol)

So, my Aunt Penny from Texas sent me a fun surprise. She works at Williams-Sonoma and so I'm always getting sweet late-season stuff out of the blue. And this last package she sent had 4 cookbooks (one was WAFFLES and one was a cooking with kids at the holidays) and the other 2 were these awesome cookbooks for preschoolers.

What's cool about these cookbooks is that they use REAL FOOD (no kool-aid or other gimmicky stuff). There's notes to the parent (the helper) and then kid-friendly instructions for the little Head Chef. And THEN... 2 pages of step-by-step ILLUSTRATIONS.

Kennady and I made French Toast using the illustrations. SHE LOVED IT!

Inside these creative cookbooks are recipes that get kids interested in helping in the kitchen AND actually wanting to eat the food!

CARROT PENNIES
HIDE AND SEEK MUFFINS
HOMEMADE LEMON-LIME SODA POP
NOODLE PUDDING
ZUCCHINI MOONS
GREEN SPAGHETTI
SALAD PEOPLE
POLKA DOT RICE
GREEN GARDEN DIP
CREAM OF TOMATO SOUP AND CRISPY CHEESE CRACKERS
COUNTING SOUP

This is the next recipe we want to try!

Recipe for
PRETEND SOUP
2 cups orange juice
1/2 cup plain yogurt
1 T. honey
2 t. lemon juice
1 small banana, sliced
1 cup berries (any kind, fresh or frozen; if they're frozen, defrost and use all the juice -- it will add color to the soup)
  1. Place orange juice in a bowl. Add yogurt, honey, lemon juice.
  2. Whisk "until it is all one color."
  3. Place 5 banana slices and 2 T. berries in each bowl.
  4. Ladle the soup over the berries and bananas. Eat!

Note: You can add other kinds of fruit as well. Slices of kiwi are expecially pretty.
Yield: About 4 servings

One thing that's so cool about being a Mom is actually living vicariously through my kids. I loved loved loved loved cooking and baking as a kid. So much that I would watch Julia Childs as a 9-year-old (after Mathnet and Reading Rainbow, remember those?).

My parents bought a video camera (and it was one of our favorite sources of entertainment as 3-kids-with-no-neighbors-out-in-the-tullies). I would prop it up on a stack of books on top of a card table in the kitchen (this is so dorky, but so me!) and I would film my own cooking show... complete with sheets of paper I would flash in front of the screen with the show's name [COOKING WITH KELLIE] and the credits. Where are those video tapes?!!! I am SUCH a nerd!

Things I loved (or thought I would love as a girl and didn't get to) do, I now have the opportunity to do with my kids. My daughter just eats it up!

Some Cool News

so, before it's announced on Sunday, i wanted to send out some spam email about what's up with us. the Lord has been orchestrating and maneuvering, and recently bryan and i have been experiencing some unity about a new ministry.

so i wanted you all to be the first to know... that we are moving to Mexico. for a long long long time.

no, not really.

but we are moving into Youth Ministry. after several months of bryan feeling the pull or desire or calling of working with high school age kids, and the other 5 pastors affirming my husband's calling and gifting in that area, pastor phil officially made him the new High School Youth Pastor at their pastors' meeting this week. we are excited to see what the Lord will do! bryan will still oversee administration and financials and still function within the body as he has been, but he'll be adjusting his schedule to meet the needs of our family first and then the needs of RCF youth.

we were first asked to consider pastoring in youth ministries almost 2 years ago, but Bryan and i were not in unity about it at the time. with a baby on the way (laughing at myself) it didn't feel like the right season for us to jump in head first. but now it just feels like the most natural transition.

the pastors are all seeing the Lord preparing to move mightily in the area of FAMILY and ministering to and for the whole family unit with an emphasis on the inter-generational relationships that are so important for us as adults, but also for the children of our church body. so for us, now, with our two older kids ready to turn 4 and 5, we feel like it's the most natural thing to incorporate all of us into how Jesus will work out this new aspect of full-time ministry.

i'm excited for bryan b/c he is so into the youth -- he loves hanging out with the guys and being real and holding them accountable and encouraging/discipling them. and we're excited that bryson will be able to assist Dad on a regular basis (as a junior pastor, lol) and watch what and how Dad does the Lord's work, and hang out with the big kids who also love Jesus.

on the afternoons that Bryson will be with Dad, i'll have some alone time to disciple my daughter while Kev's still napping. she's been really really interested in helping me cook and bake and putting together our table for mealtime.

and i didn't realize until my friend sent me the links to all these different books about high school aged girls and what they face each day at school and with boys, that i'd really be into that. i'd love to be real with the girls about real stuff. so i know the Lord is already preparing my heart so that i can be a "Safe Place" for these young women.

and then there's the benefit of lots more "big kids" to love on my babes. (i hear teenage girls love itty-bitty babes.)

it may take awhile for our transition to feel complete. we're going to ease into it. Bryan and the current youth pastor will co-coordinate youth events and mission trips through the end of the year. which is good b/c we'll be especially preoccupied with the newest Baby Trenkle.

so here's the really cool thing... by the time we've invested fully into the Youth Ministry with our time and resources, we will be ministering to the 3 & 4 year olds we had in our Sunday School classes five and six years ago! the Lord is bringing us full circle! it brings tears to my eyes! we loved those kids and we get to love on them again!

so that's the scoop. we'd love love love your prayers. and i'd love to know what you think, so if the Lord gives you some encouragement or ideas for us, PLEASE share it!

so, now... just check out my Snow Babies...

Instructions for Baby

I'm at the mid-point in my pregnancy and I always like to refresh myself on the proper care of a newborn. I don't like to be rusty at anything. And here are some tips I found (thank goodness!) that I'm sure I will not forget:
